Visiter to Lao Cai increase of 5% during Lunar New Year 2014
The northern border province of Lao Cai welcomed 20,000 visitors during the lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, a year-on-year increase of 5%.
Foreigners made up the majority of the tourists, with most of the 13,000 recorded coming from China and European countries.
Tourism revenue exceeded VND20 billion, 7.4% of set annual targets and a 19% improvement on the same period in 2013.
Locals in Lao Cai hope the positive trend will continue, developing provincial tourism, creating more jobs, and increasing incomes.
Local security forces maintained order during the Tet holiday. Restaurants and hotels indulged in festive decorations while continuing to offer tours of historical relics and surrounding villages. Visitors can sign up for 3-4 day stays in ethnic minority communities, offering a chance to enjoy traditional food and observe or participate in customs including forest worship and folk games.
